, Gua Sha Stone made from Rose Quartz.
Gua Sha Rose Quartz: Hailing from Southeast Asia, gua sha and the use of gua sha stones is a traditional Chinese medicine practice. In this practice therapists apply various tools to a person’s skin. Like much traditional Chinese medicine, the exact origins of gua sha are unknown. The practice was first recorded some 700 years ago during the Ming dynasty. However oral traditions of the practice will have passed through many generations before that time. As a result we believe, that it likely has a much longer history.
Gua sha means „to scrape“ and sha means „sand“. Originally TCM practitioners scraped the body rather than the face. Because the action was understood to release toxins from the circulatory system and eliminating congestion in the process, practitioners increased the flow of energy or „qi“. Firstly, the practitioner made a series of strokes, to produce visible red or purple bruising to the skin. Secondly, the practitioner followed the bruising caused by the gua sha stone. Thirdly he scraped deeper into the darker more purple areas of the skin, while avoiding the lighter areas. Finally, the patterns that developed made the once invisible energy stagnation very visible. As a result, the energy or „qui“ flowed freely again after the treatment.
Facial gua sha is much more gentle and softer but applies the same principles. A therapist uses very light pressure along the facial lines to avoid bruising. The most common use on the face focusses more on anti-aging and non-invasive face lifting. Still, one receives all of the deeper benefits of the treatment, which includes tending to vital organs and the emotional body.
